2026-2027 Winter Training program

If you are looking for a way to keep fit during the off-season, train in a group setting, meet new people, get real-time coaching feedback, race in indoor rowing competitions or simply have fun while staying physically active, Hanlan’s five-month-long winter training program may be suited to your needs. Open to both members and non-members, beginners and experts, the program offers several coached training sessions at Hanlan’s boathouse each week, as well as an independent Zoom rowing group for those who prefer training from their home or gym. Join us and watch your winter training goals become reality!

COACH: This program is coached by our Head Technical Coach Horacio Tendilla (bio) with support from our assistant coaching staff.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE: No experience necessary. Training sessions are open to both recreational and competitive rowers, as well as complete beginners to the sport.

AGE: 12+

PRACTICE TYPES:

Coached practices: Hanlan coaches meet rowers at the boathouse on a specified day and time, overseeing both the erg and strength workouts and following a monthly, periodized training plan. Rowers sign up in iCrew to guarantee their seat in either the erg or strength group. Sessions are capped at 30 participants total per session (15 erg and 15 strength).

Zoom practices: Rowers meet virtually on Hanlan’s Zoom channel at pre-arranged times — usually 3-4 mornings per week from 6:30 a.m - 7:30 a.m. — and follow the monthly training plan, using their own rowing machine. No coaching is provided. Unlimited participants.

Independent practices: Rowers can use boathouse equipment (ergometers and weights) on their own outside of the usual training times. Rowers must be accompanied by a buddy for safety reasons. No coaching provided.
