Jeanette Herrle discovered rowing as an adult, when a group of Queen’s University English Dept faculty decided it would be fun to do a Learn to Row in 2002 at the Kingston Rowing Club, and muddled their way through under the tutelage of future Olympian Morgan Jarvis. Having competed with a modicum of success as a Masters athlete for the past decade, first as a cox and then as a rower, she came to Hanlan in 2006 and fell in love with its rustic charm and endless expanse of water. With nearly twenty years of academic teaching experience at the secondary and postsecondary levels, she has come to love coaching and worked in almost every program at Hanlan, learning the trade from a series of gifted coaches while remaining an active competitive athlete.  Jeanette’s experience of the many benefits—and challenges—associated with a later in life entry into the sport give her a particularly empathetic and supportive approach to both novice and Masters rowers.
