Tristan Armesto, one of Hanlan's keen Masters scullers, is featured in the current newsletter of Concept 2, the manufacturer of the popular indoor rowing machines used at indoor competitions. Check out the full story on-line. Known to Hanlan members for his rowing prowess and for his design work on the proposed new boathouse, Tristan is also mechanically gifted.
At the end-of-season cleanup in 2014, Tristan found an inoperable Model B erg hiding at the back of the boathouse. With permission, instead of adding it to the dumpster he took it home. What followed was much cleaning, rust removal, total dissembling, and an order for new parts. After 38 hours labour, about $200 of new parts and supplies, and some ingenious reconfiguring, the erg is working to Tristan's satisfaction.
Look out! Tristan is going to be very ready for the spring season opening.
