Story by Phil Kim The weekend of August 17 and 18 was a success for Hanlan recreational rowers as they tested themselves at two local regattas. At the Tony Fooks Regatta, hosted by Don Rowing Club on the Credit River in Mississauga, Claudia Stodt and Mardi South won gold in the Advanced Women's Double.
In the Advanced Mixed Four, Hanlan's crew of Susan Beswick, Phil Kim, Nicola Worsfold, Claudia Stodt, and cox Mardi South bested the Don shell. Hanlan also won gold for a Mixed Quad.
At the Hog Town Heats, hosted by Argonaut Rowing Club on the waterfront, Hanlan's Mixed Eight won its heat to advance to the final where it finished second. The crew included Andrew Snowball, Adrien Cornelissen, Mardi South, Claudia Stodt, Phil Kim, Shaila Bansil, Shira Honig and Nicola Worsfold.
Hanlan's rec rowers are grateful for the volunteer help of Jeanette Herrle this season. She has been coaching in the evening helping rowers interested in making a transition from recreational to competitive rowing.
