Beautiful rowing weather graced the race course in Welland this weekend for the Rowing Canada High Performance Development Trials regatta. Held on May 4 and 5, the sun was shining, there was little wind, and the temperature was balmy - surely a first such weekend for spring 2013. Hanlan had just two entries - Alex Soutter and Kate Sauks - while our resident Upper Canada College Club had one - Vincent Harrison. Head coach Michael Sasi was with the athletes in Welland.
Kate Sauks, racing in the lightweight women's single placed 5th in her heat to advance to the semi final. She then finished fourth to advance to the B final. In the B final, Kate finished 2nd. Her time when compared to the A final would have put her in 6th place overall.
Alex Soutter raced the men's single, finishing well in his first heat to advance to the semifinal. In his second race, he finished 4th to advance to the B final. Alex did not start in the final.
Vincent Harrison, representing U.C.C. in the Junior men's single finished 4th in his heat to advance to the A final. In the final he finished 5th.
Congratulations to all in their first regatta of the season.
