Hanlan crews won 9 medals at the Head of the Welland - Five Bridges Fall Classic held on Saturday September 27, 2014 under ideal conditions - warm, sunny and no wind. As a club, Hanlan fielded 26 crews to finish 6th among the 34 clubs competing.
Finishing at the top of the podium were Hanlan's Masters Mixed Quad and the Mixed Recreational 8. Rowing in the Mixed Quad were seasoned competitors Di Mara, Barb Prevedello and Craig Lauder along with Andrew Stewart returning from a year off the water. Hanlan's Recreational 8 had a previous win this year at the Dominion Day Regatta and they won again on Saturday. The crew included Keith Stewart, Susie Hendrie, Andrew Snowball, Geoffrey Church, Claudia Stodt, Phil Kim, Marni Jakab, Mardi South and Adrien Cornelissen in the cox seat.
Among the four Hanlan crews who won silver medals were Jennifer Dickie in the Masters Women AA-B Single and Megan Lewicki in the Womens Open Lightweight Single. Lee and Dean Sela were second in the Mixed Open Double as were the Women's Open Lightweight Coxed Four. Crew members were Erin Singer, Megan Lewicki, Beth Hornby, Lauren Brown and Kelly Brigley. That made two medals on the day for Megan Lewicki and Beth Hornby.
Winning bronze medals were Alex Soutter in the Men's Open Single and Beth Hornby in the Womens Open Lightweight Single. Hanlan's Women's Masters Quad of Sara Erskine, Lissa Mangano, Melanie McNeill, and Deb Cumming also finished in third place.
A number of Hanlan crews finished just off the podium in fourth place. They included Eric Szonyi in the Mens Masters C-D Single; John Sherrick in the Mens Masters G Single; Oliver Couttolenc and David Janssen in the Mens Junior Double; and Emma Orcutt and Shannon McIlhone in the Womens Junior Double.
