The first of the Central Ontario Regatta Association (CORA) regattas was held on the north course of the Welland International Flatwater Centre on Saturday, June 28. The races were contested over 1000 metres in excellent conditions. Hanlan Boat Club had strong results but the real story for the club is the growth and increasing skills showed by the junior rowers under the leadership of coach Lauren Brown.
Hanlan sent 11 crews to the regatta which represents a significant increase from previous years but its athletes also finished higher in the standings. In the Under 17 Men's Double Ollie Coutolenc and David Janssen finished first. Also first in one of two heats of the Under 19 Women's Double were Shannon McIhone and Mauricie Summers.
The two crews with second place finishes were Emma Randall and Shannon McIlhone in the Under 19 Women's Pair and Andrew Johnston in the Under 19 Men's Single. Thirds were achieved, again by Andrew Johnston who rowed with Patrick Gogan in the Under 19 Men's Double and by David Janssen in the Under 18 Men's Single.
Five Masters crews from Hanlan entered the regatta. Tristan Armesto was second in the Men's B single as was Jeannette Herrle in the Women's Lightweight Single. Also second was the Women's Quad with Sara Erskine, Lisa Mangano, Melanie McNeill, and Jennifer Dickie.
