Hanlan Boat Club held its annual open house on Sunday June 9 in partnership with the Shells and Sails Program of Row Ontario and Ontario Sailing. Although the weather was not auspicious - a stiff, cool east wind and cloudy skies could have deterred potential visitors - there was a steady stream of visitors who came down to Hanlan for a barbecue and the opportunity to "try It' (whether rowing or sailing) as the day was themed.
All day visitors were taken out on the water in quads or touring doubles by Hanlan members. As a result there were new sign-ups for both Hanlan's ongoing Learn-to-Row program and for the Youth Watersports Program which starts in July. Others had a chance to try sailing in small boats.
Hanlan is very grateful to Deb Cumming who once again organized this important outreach initiative. In addition numerous Hanlan members donated their time to help welcome visitors or made food for the refreshment table.
