A small group of Hanlan Masters persevered to the end of August to compete in the last sprint regatta of the season -- the Canadian Masters Championships held in Welland over the three days of August 23, 24, and 25. Silver medals - the best finishes of the regatta for Hanlan - were won by Susan Wright and Deb Cumming in the Women's E Double and by a composite crew in the Men's G quad. Racing in the quad were Ralph Manktelow (a former Hanlan club captain), D. Leinert, and Hanlan scullers John Sherrick and Harry Vanderlugt. Harry Vanderlugt was also second in the lightweight men's G. single.
On the opening day both Jeanette Herrle and Angela Desand raced to third place finishes in the lightweight women's single. John Sherrick and Harry Vanderlugt also were third in the men's G double. In doubles competition Sara Erskine and Lissa Mangano as well as Malinda Francescut and Jennifer Dickie placed well in heats to advance to finals, subsequently finishing 4th and 5th.
Some 4ths were claimed by Jeanette Herrle and Tracey Clingen in women's doubles as well as by Peter Heywood and Craig Lauder in men's doubles.
