It was another beautiful day for racing at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St Catharines on Saturday August 9. Nine crews from Hanlan were in action racing mostly in heats, but also in two semifinals.
In one of the Under 17 Mens Double semifinals, Peter Barrozzino and Patrick Grogran finished second and have advanced to the final on Sunday. David Janssen and Oliver Couttolenc finished third in their semifinal and will not advance. One of the oddities of Henley is evident here as the time of Janssen and Couttolenc was faster than some of those crews who did advance. It is always the luck of the draw which heat is faster or slower in the Henley regatta system in which, in this case, only the first two finishers from each of the three semifinals advanced.
In the Senior Mens Lightweight Quad the Hanlan crew of Ryan Northway, Ian Finlay, Matt Vincent, and Sepehr Khanbeigi finished second in their heat to advance to the final on Sunday.
Also advancing to a Sunday final was the Under 23 Womens Lightweight Four of Erin Singer, Heather Noble, Oksana Wankiewicz, and Emily Donaldson. This crew was third in their heat.
So...that makes three Hanlan boats that will be contesting finals in Sunday's racing. Turn out to cheer them on if you can.
