Four Hanlan Masters headed to St Catharines on Saturday May 10 for the
annual Head of the Martindale regatta. Racing one lap around Henley Island, the scullers enjoyed much better water conditions than in recent years for this singles only race. Although many scullers found the criss wind at the top of the course tough to handle, Eric said it was no big deal for anyone used to rowing at Hanlan. As always there was much bantering about not being ready to race, or even row, this early in the season after the late arrival of spring kept everyone off the water.
Eric Szonyi, by a considerable margin the youngest of Hanlan’s entries, placed 3rd in the Masters Men event. In the same event John Sherrick was 11th. He was followed by Mike McInerney and Victor Gustavison. Mike continues to hold the lead in his friendly rivalry with Victor.
