August 2. Congratulations to Canada's women's eight and men's eight crews on winning silver medals at the London Olympics regatta. This morning CBC Radio came to Hanlan Boat Club as crews returned to the dock after practise to capture our rowers' reaction to the news of the women's eight medal performace. How cool it was to hear Nick Matthews, Satinder Singh, and Kelly Brigley on the morning news, endorsing the tremendous effort and accomplishments of our national crews. Go Canada Go!!!
July 31 update. Michael Braithwaite and Kevin Kowalyk finished sixth in their semi final today and will not advance to the final. Afterwards, the duo said that they "gave it their all" from start to finish but it was not enough as they never found the rhythm needed to make the boat go fast. Disappointment was written all over their faces. Nevertheless, Hanlan is proud of Michael's achievements.
July 29 update. Michael Braithwaite and Kevin Kowalyk advanced to the semi final in the men's double sculls. They rowed a strong race, holding a solid second in the first 1000+ metres but dropping back to finish third by a few feet after the second 1,000 m. This crew is considered a developmental boat with their eyes on Rio de Janeiro in four years' time.
July 28, 2012. Michael Braithwaite, Hanlan and University of Toronto rowing alumnus, competed in the heats of the men's double sculls today at the London 2012 rowing competition.
